NTRO member and former U.S. Rep. Bob Dold announced today that he would run in 2014 for the 10th Congressional District.

Here is an excerpt of his statement:

I ran for Congress just a few years ago because I felt a call to serve the 10th District, and you sent me to Washington, DC to do just that. Together, we provided what so many say our country is missing right now – thoughtful leadership that was able to build bridges between parties, and put people before politics and progress ahead of partisanship. We succeeded in changing the dialogue to focus on getting our government on a budget and solving the biggest issues we face as a nation.

As someone who broke the mold and earned a reputation as one of the most independent-thinking, moderate members of Congress, and as someone who was never afraid to work with anybody who shared a desire to solve problems, I share your frustration with the current lack of compromise and the consistent stalemate in Washington.

Over the past few months, I’ve had the opportunity to speak with many of you about the problems you are facing in your businesses, in your households, and in your communities. You have encouraged me to carry your voice forward in 2014.

With deep reflection, and strong support from you, Danielle and our kids, my family and friends, I wanted to share with you first that I’ve made the decision to step forward and run in 2014 to represent the 10th District of Illinois.

I want to personally thank you for your continued encouragement. Running for office is never an easy decision for any candidate or their families, but this decision is much larger than my family and I; it is about serving our community and country.

I hope you will join me as we lay out our vision, together, for a more prosperous 10th District.

NRC Chairman Reince Priebus outlined his short-term and long-term goals for the Republican National Committee at a fundraiser Tuesday night at a private residence in Winnetka.

After recounting how his first order of business upon becoming chairman in 2011 was restoring the party’s fiscal health, he detailed some of the strategies and tactics the RNC will execute in response to its “Growth and Opportunity Party” report he commissioned after the 2012 General Election.

More than 50 donors and local Republican activists attended the meeting and met other key NRC staff. Among those in attendance were Illinois National Committeeman Richard Williamson (a Kenilworth resident), NTRO Committeeman Bill Cadigan, Evanston Township Committeeman Blair Garber, former Congressman Bob Dold of Kenilworth, and newly elected New Trier Township Trustees Hamilton Chang and Jan Gargula.

With three delegates, a national committeeman, a sitting Congressman, a sitting Senator (who made an appearance by video only), and a rich tradition of leadership, New Trier Republicans have quite a reputation on the national stage.

Committeeman Bill Cadigan shot some video at the Republican National Convention to send back to New Trier Township a little flavor of the history going on in Tampa. Most of the people he encountered wanted to send best wishes back to New Trier Township, knowing how relevant the sentiments of New Trier are to the state of Illinois, the Midwest and the nation.

Below are some more greetings from the convention floor.

Cadigan, Katherine Dold White and Richard Porter had a great view of Mitt Romney’s history-making acceptance speech tonight. Earlier in the week, Bill took some video from his perch on the floor to capture the mood in the building.
