WINNETKA, Illinois — Wilmette entrepreneur Marc Levine was named the new chairman of the New Trier Republican Organization following Winnetka attorney Bill Cadigan’s resignation as Committeeman Sunday.
NTRO membership affirmed Levine as chairman at Sunday evening’s Wine and Cheese Party. By affirming him as chairman, they also voiced their strong preference that Levine is Cook County Chairman Aaron Del Mar’s choice to serve as Committeeman for the remainder of Cadigan’s four-year term, which expires in March 2018.
Cadigan, who has been Committeeman since taking over for the retiring Tolbert Chisum in the Fall of 2011, was appointed to the Illinois State Board of Elections by Gov. Bruce Rauner. The Illinois State Senate confirmed his appointment, which begins July 1. By law, Cadigan cannot serve in party leadership during his four-year tenure on the Board of Elections.
As Chairman of NTRO, Levine takes over an organization that counts Gov. Bruce Rauner, Sen. Mark Kirk, U.S. Rep. Robert Dold, and RNC Committeeman Richard Porter among its membership. NTRO recruits local candidates, educates voters throughout the township on pertinent issues, and promotes good government and independent, thoughtful leadership. When Levine is named Committeeman, he will have some statutory duties, including overseeing election judges.
“I am proud of the role NTRO played in electing Gov. Rauner and sending Bob Dold back to Congress,” Cadigan said. “I think the organization is well-positioned to help Senator Kirk in his re-election fight while also boosting Congressman Dold, our Presidential nominee, and other local candidates who will have a strong case for election.”
Levine, 51, has a 30-year career in investment banking, asset management and venture capital. He has been a fellow at the Illinois Policy Institute, becoming one of the leading experts on the state’s unfunded liability crisis. Gov. Rauner appointed Levine to the State Board of Investment in January.
“NTRO is a leading light in the Republican Party, both statewide as well as nationally, and it is an honor to serve in leadership,” Levine said. “Bill Cadigan has done such a great job building NTRO and has also been a great friend. Job one will be to ensure Mark Kirk is re-elected to the United States Senate where he has been a heroic leader and voice of reason. We also will continue our strong support of Gov. Rauner in his efforts to change Illinois state government.”
